It’s healthy. it’s chocolate. But it is not moist. At all. Decent flavor, but... cough. Get me a glass of water!
EDIT: after reading the other reviews of four and five stars, it’s worth noting that those who liked it altered the recipe in some way (or plan to in the future.) Thus, they did not like this recipe! As is, that is.

the dates feel a bit sticky against your teeth, but its absolutly worth it!!

Absolutely delicious! I added sea salt to the top and a combo of semi sweet and unsweetened chocolate. Also baked for an extra few minutes for a gooey brownie like texture.

Super delicious and easy. It was amazing first night out of the oven, but the second day after being in the fridge it was super hard and just crumbled. In hindsight, I would have left it on the counter and eaten it faster! I also add semi sweet chocolate chips on top and I was not disappointed. Paired with frosting from “Pumpkin Bars With Brown Sugar Frosting” recipe which was super good.

This was fantastic! I frosted mine with a date-sweetened chocolate frosting from a recipe from The Minimalist Baker, which I think was pretty necessary to cut down on some of the richness of the cake. I treated it like a slightly cakey brownie, not a cake. Full disclosure, I used melted butter instead of coconut oil, as I don’t care for the aftertaste of coconut oil in sweet applications, so mine was slightly less healthful than the original recipe. I used 7 oz of unsweetened chocolate instead of 7.5 and I still found it very dark and intense. Not in a bad way, but it certainly has a more “mature” taste to it, so I wouldn’t recommend it as written for children, or people who prefer milk chocolate. I think I might try it again with less next time. I found it perfectly sweet, but I prefer my desserts less sweet than most of the desserts usually found in America, so take that with a grain of salt. Speaking of salt, the recipe definitely needs some salt! Every sweet recipe needs at least a pinch of salt. I added maybe 1/4 teaspoon, but that’s just an estimate. I would suggest that if someone is making this for a child, or someone who isn’t fond of dark chocolate, I would sub up to half of the unsweetened chocolate with semi-sweet chocolate, and possibly even milk chocolate. So it will be sweeter than the original recipe calls for, but more similar to what they would be used to.

I made these yesterday and let my tell you the title of this cake is on point. Healthy, Extra Moist, Chocolate, Cake. I have made flour less choc. cake before but it was not this texture and as moist. The only thing I did different was use semi chocolate chips as the unsweetened is hard to find where I am. I didn't lessen on the dates as I used semi sweet chocolate and it still good, although next time I will try it with less. I do not like dates but you will never know that it's there by taste. Love love this recipe and thanks for sharing!

Delish! I added peanut chips butter to it (for my husband's birthday since they're his favorite). Wanted healthier than classic cake...turned out great!
