I made these yesterday using fresh dates instead of dried. 1) They are incredibly delicious and will become a staple dish in my Paleo journey! 2) Since I have to avoid sugar and similar reactive sweeteners, I substituted honey for the agave. Perhaps this is why they were just a little too sweet for me. Or perhaps my tastebuds are a little off where sweets are concerned. Either way, when I make them again, very soon, I will adjust to accommodate for sweetness. One last point...3) If you use fresh dates be forewarned, they have pits in them. I had no idea why my food processer was making weird noises. Thankfully the processor did not chop the pits. So my first batch of energy bars, though extremely delicious, have pits in them. So naturally, I recommend that if you use fresh dates, remove the pits first!

I replaced the dates with prunes and dried cranberries with dried mixed berries! I also like to make mine a bit thinner so that the recipe goes a bit further and they are a little bit lower calorie each. But the basic recipe is awesome, have made three times now!

Added some coconut, doubled the seeds, adjusted the agave syrup to hold the extra together. Soooo good!
