Description
The origins of the margarita are fuzzy, but its lore dates back to the late 1930s. All the stories involve a Mexican bartender shaking up the cocktail to impress a woman. A properly made margarita is impressive indeed, a supremely satisfying drink that treats your mouth to all the flavors: tangy, sweet, salty, and a little bitter. While many margarita recipes feature clear blanco or silver tequila, we prefer it made with an affordable reposado (a type of tequila that’s aged in wood) for a smoother drink. Be sure to have extra fresh limes on hand so you don’t have to squeeze them hard, which can introduce too much bitter lime oil into your drink. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Maria C. Hunt.

Directions
- Place salt on a small saucer and spread it out in a thin layer. Run lime wedge around the edge of a rocks glass to moisten it. Then gently press the glass into the salt to create a salted rim. Fill glass with ice.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with more ice. Add tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and 2 tsp. simple syrup. Shake until the drink is very cold. Taste and add a little more simple syrup if you like. Carefully pour into the prepared glass. Tuck in the lime wheel.
