Extreme cheating: I used canned corned beef, half the cabbage, another cup of water, shallots instead of leeks, no parsley since it was slimy, and I forgot the garlic! Due to previous reviewer's comment of being too sweet I left out the pepper and only used 2 carrots. Still turned out decently. A bit weaker than a normal beef stew, but not horrendously so, and considering it cost about $6 for the pot, about for 8 servings' worth...

The carrots made the broth sweet tasting. I prefer a savory broth.
