Description
Take your favorite pizza flavors and apply them to grilled cheese! We keep it simple here with jarred marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and sliced pepperoni, but feel free to add olives, mushrooms, spinach, or another favorite topping. The secret to making grilled cheese in the oven is to sandwich them between a pair of sheet pans, and preheat the top one to add weight and another surface for crispy bread. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Ashley Strickland Freeman.
Ingredients
US|METRIC
6 SERVINGS
- 12 slices ciabatta bread (or crusty sandwich bread)
- 1/2 cup salted butter (softened, or mayonnaise)
- 1 jar marinara sauce (1 jar is 24 ounces)
- 12 slices mozzarella cheese (pre-sliced cheese)
- 4 oz. pepperoni slices

It was pretty good, I think using Texas toast would raise it up a notch.

A little bland but easy and very good.

It came out great. It was a huge hit with my boys. Quick and easy weeknight meal, we will be making them again.

Super easy and family loved, however as other reviewers have stated, my bottom bread was soggy. I will do as others have next time and just flip the sandwiches (plus then will only have 1 dirty pan). Will make again

followed the directions to a T but added italian seasoning, shredded chicken and dipped in ranch. recommend adding 2 or 3 jalapeño slices and you could sell these bad boys!

Fantastic, very tasty and easy to make. I changed the recipe a bit. Used Texas toast, topped the pepperoni with another cheese slice , meat slice and cheese slice. Cooked at 425 for 14 mins. Was a gooey cheesy delight and very filling. Will definitely make again. Note: be sure to follow the baking directions , using two cookie sheets. No need to flip the sandwich. Highly recommend.

Loved the taste and so easy to make. The bottom bread ended up soggy. Next time I will grill the bread prior to placing in the oven and flip halfway through.

It was great. I used Texas toast instead oh the ciabatta

I used Ciabatta buns for the bread. Instead of using two sheet pans I flipped the sandwiches at the half point. And I put garlic salt in the butte. Over all they were pretty good. And my kids enjoyed helping make them and eating them.

Delicious! Kids really enjoyed making and eating it…definitely will add more sauce and cheese - but worth making it again!

So good and so easy. We had additional fillings out to add- chopped artichoke hearts, diced olives, etc. Everyone enjoyed this.

Tasty, crispy, not too much pepperoni or tang at all. The kids loved it as a heavy lunch.

Quick and easy. Recc using pizza sauce vs marinara and adding an extra slice of cheese

I made some for me and my brothers and they liked it and asked for more! It was hard to get it out of the oven tho

It was a enjoyed by half the family, the other half preferred just a grilled cheese sandwich. It was fun using the heated sheet pan to cook the sandwiches.

Delicious, and everyone in the family ate it! Super easy and a quick school-night staple.

delicious! i made it for lunch and the kids gobbled them all up. the hot-baking-sheet on-top technique toasts the tops very nicely!

I followed the directions to the word and they turned out great. Made for a quick little lunch with a splash of variety from the normal. I would say add an extra slice of cheese and to sandwich the pepperonis between the cheese. I am a big fan of cheese though; so i may be a little bias. Overall simple and delicious meal, that I plan to cook again.

This was lovely and really enjoyed by the kids. My marinara was tomato and bacon which gave an extra nice taste alongside the smoky pepperoni which I used instead of Italian hot and spicy. I made this as an open sandwich splitting a ciabatta longways rather then sandwich style

I used one slice of mozzarella and one slice of cheddar for each one. The family loved them.

Delicious, quick, and easy!!

These turned out great! Although the hot pan on top, was not hot enough to toast the bread. No problem, I just flipped the sandwiches over, and toasted them for 5 more minutes.

I followed the recipe pretty loosely (didn't follow exact measurments) but they turned out pretty tasty. I recommend the mariara dipping sauce to overcome all of the bread. If you pre-cut the sandwiches in half, they would work great for a party.
