Description
Say hello to a new family favorite that just got extra-easy with our slow-cooker version. This famous Hungarian chicken dish is beautifully creamy, with rich flavors of tomatoes, bell pepper, and paprika. Since paprika is the primary seasoning, you're going to want a kind you love. We recommend sweet Hungarian paprika, which has loads of complexity. Of course, you can reduce the amount of paprika and omit the cayenne if you’re looking for a milder dish, or choose hot Hungarian paprika if you love heat. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Roxanne Wyss and Kathy Moore of The Electrified Cooks.
Ingredients
- nonstick cooking spray (or a little vegetable oil)
- 1 large yellow onion
- 1 red bell pepper (medium)
- 1 1/2 lb. boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. paprika (preferably sweet Hungarian paprika)
- 2 tsp. granulated garlic
- 1 tsp. salt (plus more for pasta water)
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne
- 1 can crushed tomatoes (15 oz. per can, 1 3/4 cups)
- 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cold water
- wide egg noodles (about 8 oz.)
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- minced fresh parsley (optional)
Directions
- Spray a 4- to 6-qt. slow cooker with cooking spray. Thinly slice onion and bell pepper.
- Place sliced vegetables in the slow cooker and arrange chicken thighs evenly over them. Sprinkle paprika, garlic, salt, and cayenne over the chicken and vegetables, then pour tomatoes evenly the top.
- Cover slow cooker and cook on Low until chicken and vegetables are tender, 3-4 hours.
