Turned out great - my husband really liked this recipe and thought that the peas were seasoned very well! My local grocery store was sold out of the dried black-eyed peas that I usually buy, so I bought two cans of Bush’s black-eyes peas (never realized there was such a product). I followed this recipe as written to liven up the canned peas, except I used less broth since the peas themselves were already cooked (just needed to be heated per the instructions on the can, but they probably would taste pretty bland as is without any seasonings). I used just enough broth to cover the peas with it (maybe one cup) & the juice that was already in the cans.

I’ve recently come over to the Black eyed pea side of seeing things and this recipe was clutch. I omitted the smoked turkey/meat and used a scoop of bouillon with water, instead of stock. My four year old sweetie she wasn’t going to eat and unfortunately that was a a bold face lie! We ate all the peas.
Laying the flavors truly helped and now I know why my peas prior to this recipe were always lacking.
